Open the slot the bottle is in, tap the bottle, then tap ⋯ and choose Move within this section or Move to different section, cellar or fridge. The 3D view goes into move mode — tap the slot you want and the bottle lands there.
⭐ Requires a paid plan. Free collections get no VinLocate at all. Collaborators with view-only access can look but not move.
⚠️ Remove is not how you unplace a bottle. The Remove button beside the bottle starts the removal flow — the one where you record that you drank, gifted or sold it. To take a bottle out of its slot and keep it in your collection, use Remove from 3D position in the ⋯ menu instead.
Moving one bottle
On the home screen, under Cellars & fridges, tap your storage, then tap the section.
Drill into the row or column the bottle is in, then tap its slot. A panel lists what is in that slot.
Tap the bottle once to select it. Remove and ⋯ appear beneath it.
Tap ⋯ and pick a move option.
Tap the slot you want. A Bottle added to slot confirmation appears and the 3D model updates.
Storage → section → row → slot → tap the bottle → ⋯ → Move
While you are choosing a slot, ⋯ offers Change Section, so you can send the bottle somewhere else without starting over.
What each option does
Option | What happens |
Move within this section | Stays in the rack or shelf you are looking at. Tap the new slot. |
Move to different section, cellar or fridge | You pick the destination storage and section first, then tap a slot inside it. |
Remove from 3D position | Takes the bottle out of its slot. It stays in your collection, simply unplaced, and shows up under the Without a 3D position filter. |
Remove from collection | Records the bottle as gone. Not a way to rearrange your cellar. |
The wording follows what you are looking at: on a fridge it reads Move within this shelf, and in the whole-cellar view Move within this cellar.
Tapping an occupied slot swaps the two bottles. The panel names the wine already there — Replacing: … — and the button becomes Replace. The displaced bottle is lifted out of its position and joins the list of bottles waiting for a slot, so you can drop it straight into the one you have just freed up.
Moving a group at once
Rearranging a whole rack one bottle at a time is slow. Instead, select the bottles in your Collection, tap ⋯ in the action bar and choose Relocate Bottles: pick the destination, then place them one tap each from a single 3D session. Add to 3D position in the same menu does the same job for bottles that have never been placed.
On Android and the web
Android has the same slot panel and the same ⋯ menu inside the 3D view, and moving works there. What is not wired up yet is Relocate Bottles outside the 3D view — on a bottle's own screen, and in the collection selection bar, tapping it does nothing. Start moves from inside VinLocate on Android.
On app.invintory.com, open the section and use Current Bottles in the sidebar, or open the wine and click Relocate Bottle. You then choose Move within this cellar or another storage, and click the target slot.
