In the 3D view, tap ⋯ in the top right, choose Coordinate Settings, then pick the corner your numbering starts from: Bottom Left, Bottom Right, Top Left or Top Right.
⭐ Requires a paid plan. Free collections get no VinLocate at all, so there are no coordinates to change. Collaborators with view-only access do not get the ⋯ menu either.
Nothing moves. Changing the origin renumbers your rows and columns — it never touches a bottle. Every bottle stays in the same physical slot; only the number you read off it changes. Locate keeps working throughout.
The origin is set once for the whole collection, not per section. It applies to every cellar, fridge, rack and shelf you own, and to everyone who shares the collection.
Changing the origin
On the home screen, under Cellars & fridges, tap your storage.
Tap a section to open the 3D view.
If you have already drilled into one row or column, tap back until you are looking at the whole section. The menu only appears at that level.
Tap ⋯ top right, then Coordinate Settings.
Tap Origin and pick a corner. The Example picture below it updates to show what you chose.
A Coordinates updated confirmation appears. Close the screen — the 3D model renumbers as you return to it.
Storage → a section → ⋯ → Coordinate Settings → Origin
The four origins
Origin | Row 1 is | Column 1 is | Called this on the web |
Bottom Left | the bottom row | the left column | Row Descending |
Bottom Right | the bottom row | the right column | Both Descending |
Top Left | the top row | the left column | Both Ascending |
Top Right | the top row | the right column | Column Descending |
Bottom Left is where a new collection starts. Choose whichever matches the labels already on your racks, so the app agrees with the shelf in front of you rather than the other way round.
Depth — the D in a coordinate like R3, C5, D1 — is never affected. Only rows and columns are renumbered.
Do you support custom coordinates?
No. VinLocate always numbers rows and columns, and the four origins above are the only way to change that numbering. You cannot letter your columns, rename a row, or type your own label for a slot.
What you can name is the section. Open the storage, tap a section's ⋯ menu and choose Rename — the name you give it appears in front of the coordinate wherever a position is shown, so a bottle reads as Left Wall ❯ R3, C5, D1 rather than a bare grid reference. For most cellars that is the naming people are actually after.
If your racks are labelled in a way none of this covers, CellarStickers let you put a physical tag on the rack itself and tap it to open that slot.
On Android and the web
On app.invintory.com, open a section, click Settings in the sidebar and pick one of the four tiles under Coordinate Origin. The web names them for what the numbers do rather than for a corner — the table above maps the two.
On Android, Coordinate Settings in the ⋯ menu renumbers the 3D view straight away, but the choice is not saved: it goes back to Bottom Left next time you open VinLocate, and it does not change the coordinates printed on your bottles. Set the origin on iPhone, iPad or the web and Android will follow.
