Your total collection value is the market price of every bottle we have a price for, added together, plus an estimate for the bottles we don't — and that estimate is your own collection's average bottle price, never what you paid.

Your purchase prices are not part of it
This is the most common misunderstanding about the number. If a wine has no market price, we do not fall back to what you paid for it. We use the average market price of the rest of your collection. What you paid rolls up into a separate total of its own.
The two halves of the number
Bottles with a market price. Each one counted at its own price. Where you have set your own price for a wine, yours is the one used.
Bottles without one. Each counted at your collection's average market price. A wine usually has no price because it is rare, or popular in a country where our pricing data is thin.

Why the total moves on its own
Market prices refresh, so the figure drifts even on a week you touched nothing.
Removing a high-value bottle lowers it twice over: that bottle's price leaves, and the average standing in for your uncovered bottles falls with it.
Market prices are converted into your base currency at the current exchange rate, so rates move the total too.
