How to switch from row view to column view in VinLocate

Slice a rack by column instead of by row, and jump straight to the one you want.

A rack opens in row view. Tap Column on the two-part toggle at the bottom right of the 3D view and the same rack is sliced by column instead — tap the model and you drill into a column rather than a row.

Requires a paid plan. Free collections get no VinLocate at all, so there is no 3D view to switch.

It is only a way of looking. Nothing is moved or renumbered, and no bottle is touched. The toggle changes which slice of the rack you drill into, nothing else — so switch freely.

The toggle only appears on racks. Bins and wine cases have no rows or columns to slice, so they open straight to their contents with no toggle at all.

Switching between row and column view

  1. On the home screen, under Cellars & fridges, tap your storage.

  2. Tap a rack section to open the 3D view.

  3. At the bottom right, tap Column. The highlight moves across, and the rack is now sliced vertically.

  4. Tap the model to drill into one column. The title bar shows which one — Column 4.

  5. Tap Row at any time to go back. Every section starts in row view again next time you open it; the choice is not remembered.

Row view or column view?

View

You drill into

Use it when

Row (the default)

One horizontal shelf of the rack at a time

Your rack is wider than it is tall, which is most of them

Column

One vertical stack of the rack at a time

Your rack is tall and narrow, or you file wine by column

A rack only one row deep, or one column wide, has nothing to slice — the toggle is left off and you see the whole thing at once.

Jumping straight to a row

To the left of the toggle is a picker showing Row -- while you are looking at the whole rack, and Row 3 once you are inside one. Tap it for a Jump to Row list of every row in the section, with the numbering running the same way as your coordinate origin, and tap one to go there.

Once you are inside a row, the toggle is replaced by two step arrows that move you to the next and previous row without going back out. On a fridge they carry on to the shelf above or below, so you can walk the whole fridge one shelf at a time. Their direction follows your coordinate origin too — see How to change the coordinates in VinLocate.

On Android and the web

Android has the same Row / Column control and the same picker beside it, in the same place, and it behaves the same way.

On app.invintory.com the control sits in the minimap panel: Row and Column buttons across the top, then a tile per slice labelled R1, R2, R3 — or C1, C2, C3 — each showing how many of its slots are filled. Click a tile to drill in, or the small button above the list to come back out to the whole rack.
