How to log wines at a restaurant

Two ways to keep a wine you drank out — a review, which needs no bottle, or add-then-Consumed, which counts in your collection.

You do not need to own a bottle to keep a wine you drank out. Write a review on the wine and it is yours for good; add the bottle and mark it Consumed only if you also want it counted in your collection.

🍷 A review needs no bottle. Reviews attach to the wine and vintage rather than to a bottle, so you can review anything in our catalogue — including a wine you have never owned. Every review starts Private.

Just review it

  1. Open the Explore tab.

  2. Beside Latest community reviews, tap Create review.

  3. Search our catalogue for the wine and pick the vintage.

  4. Tap Add location and search for the restaurant, so the note remembers where you were.

  5. Type your note — or tap Transcribe and say it, which is easier at a table.

  6. Under What did you think?, pick Disliked, Liked or Loved, then tap Done.

Explore → Create review → search the wine → Add location → Done

Nothing on that screen is required, so a reaction on its own is a perfectly good log — come back and fill in the rest whenever. Your reviews live on ProfileMy Reviews, which has its own Create review button.

Add the bottle, then drink it

Worth the extra steps when you want the wine counted in your collection rather than only remembered.

  1. Add the bottle to your collection as you normally would.

  2. On Home, tap Remove and search for the wine.

  3. Leave the reason on Consumed — it is already selected — and tap Confirm.

  4. The Bottle consumed message offers Create Review to write the note now, or Remind Later to be nudged about it.

On Android and the web

Both offer the review-only route. On Android, open the Reviews tab and tap Create. On app.invintory.com, use Quick ActionsCreate Review. Each then searches the catalogue the same way.

Android: Reviews → Create
Web: app.invintory.com → Quick Actions → Create Review

Before you order

Photograph the restaurant's list and Vincent reads it and tells you what to pick. Open a Vincent chat on iPhone or iPad, tap +, then Scan a Wine List. It recommends from the list; it does not add anything to your collection. The scan is not in the Android app or on the web yet.
