MCP lets you connect your InVintory collection to an AI assistant like Claude, so you can ask it about your wine — and let it add, update and remove bottles for you — without leaving that assistant.
⭐ Requires a paid plan. On Free you can still connect, but every request comes back refused. The plan that counts is the one on the collection you are working in, not your own — so a collaborator on someone else's paid collection can use it there.
You never paste a password or an API key. You paste one address, then log in to InVintory in your browser and press Allow. You can see exactly what you are approving before you do.
The address you need
Every client asks for the same one thing — the server URL:

Connect in Claude
Open Settings → Connectors.
Choose Add custom connector.
Name it InVintory and paste the URL above.
Press Connect. A browser window opens on InVintory.
Log in with your normal InVintory account.
Read the permissions, then press Allow.
The window closes itself and the connector shows as connected. Ask Claude something like "what Barolo do I have?" to check it worked.
Connect in another client
Anything that supports a remote MCP server with OAuth will work — the same URL, the same login-and-approve step. There is no separate signup and nothing to install.

What you are approving
The approval screen lists three permissions, and it names the app that is asking:
Read your wine collections and bottles | Answering questions about what you own |
Add, update, and remove bottles | Making changes on your behalf |
Search the global wine catalog | Looking up wines you do not own yet |
Your role in the collection still applies on top of this. If you are a view-only collaborator, an assistant connected as you can read but cannot change anything.
What you can ask for
Once connected, an assistant can:
Search and filter your collection — by producer, region, grape, vintage, price, drink window, tags and more.
Look up a wine in the global catalog, including vintage guidance and critic scores.
Add bottles, update details like price or drink window, and mark bottles as drunk, gifted or sold.
Read a wine list you paste in and tell you what is worth ordering.
Read out a section of your 3D cellar slot by slot, and tell you how many free slots are left.
Place bottles into slots, move them from one slot to another, take them back out, or re-sort a whole rack — by region, by vintage, or in the order you dictate. If you don't like the result, ask it to undo.
Assistants change quickly and so does this list — if something is missing today it may not be tomorrow.
If you have more than one collection
The connection starts on the collection you own, and stays there. If you belong to several, just ask the assistant to list your collections and switch to the one you want. That choice sticks until you change it again — including in other assistants you have connected, because the active collection belongs to your account, not to one app.
Disconnecting
Remove the connector in the assistant itself — in Claude, Settings → Connectors → the InVintory connector → Remove. Access ends there. There is no connected-apps list inside InVintory yet, so if you have lost access to the assistant and want the connection cut from our side, email support.
If it will not connect
It says you need a subscription. The collection you are working in is on Free. Upgrade it, or switch to a paid collection you have access to.
It says permission denied. Either you are view-only in that collection and asked for a change, or the assistant is missing a permission — remove the connector and add it again, approving all three.
The login window opens but nothing happens. You are probably not signed in to InVintory in that browser. Log in at app.invintory.com first, then connect again.
It says the cellar is busy. Something else is already rearranging that cellar — the app, or another assistant. Wait for it to finish and ask again.
It goes quiet after a burst of questions. There is a limit on how fast requests can arrive. Wait a minute and carry on.
It stops working after a while. Access is short-lived by design and the assistant renews it in the background. If it cannot, remove the connector and add it again.
How this differs from Vincent
Vincent is our own sommelier, built into the app, and it remembers your taste over time. MCP gives an outside assistant the same tools Vincent uses, in whatever app you already work in. Both read and write the same collection, so a bottle added by either one shows up everywhere.
