You do not have to set anything up first. A cellar called My Cellar comes with your account, so you can add a bottle the minute you sign in and move it somewhere better later.
⚠️ If your collection already exists somewhere else, import it before you type anything. An import always adds and never merges, so uploading a file on top of bottles you entered by hand leaves you with two of each.
What is already waiting for you

Wishlist | A saved list for wines you want but do not own, so a bottle you are only thinking about does not have to go into your collection. |
Choose your way in
All four routes end in the same collection, so pick whichever matches what you have in your hands right now.
A file, or another wine app — import it. One upload beats hundreds of taps.
Bottles on a rack — photograph the labels. This is the quickest way in with nothing but wine.
A wine you know by name — search for it. Include the producer, and type the year to skip the vintage step.
A case still in the box — add one wine and set the quantity to 12; you get twelve separate bottles you can drink one at a time.

The only three things we need
Field | What happens if you leave it |
Quantity | Starts at 1. The shortcuts 1, 3, 6, 12 and 24 replace the count rather than adding to it. |
Vintage | The one thing you have to choose. N.V. sits at the top of the list for non-vintage wines. |
Storage | Already set to the last storage you used, and it remembers that between app launches — so from your second bottle onwards this is one less tap. |
Everything else on that form is optional and can be filled in later by opening the bottle and tapping Edit. The button reads Confirm when you are adding and Save when you are editing.
If you cannot add anything
Adding needs editor access. If you joined someone else's collection as a viewer you can read it but not change it — ask the owner to raise your access.
