Custom removal types let a collection use its own reasons for a bottle leaving — "Sold by the glass", "Corkage", "Tasting" — instead of ours. Create them under Collection settings → Custom Removal Types on iPhone or iPad.

⚠️ Read this before you create the first one. Custom reasons replace the seven standard ones rather than joining them. As soon as a collection has one of its own, Consumed, Gifted, Sold, Broken, Expired, Donated and Missing all disappear from the reason grid, for everyone in the collection.
What that changes

Bottles already removed | Unchanged. They keep the reason and date they were given, and Past bottles still shows it. |
Consumption figures | Your analytics count a bottle as drunk only under the built-in Consumed reason, and a custom reason can never be that reason — so from that point on, new removals stop being counted as wine drunk. Naming one "Consumed" does not change it. |
The review prompt | The offer to write a tasting note after drinking a bottle follows the same rule, so it no longer appears. |
Filtering past bottles | The Removal reason filter offers only your own reasons, so you can no longer filter by Consumed or Gifted. |
The date heading | Reads Marked on rather than renaming itself the way Consumed on or Noticed on did. |
If you rely on drinking figures, that is the trade to weigh before you start.
Creating one
On Home, tap the collection name, then Collection settings.
Under Customization, tap Custom Removal Types.
Tap Create in the top right.
Fill in Name — this is what people see in the reason grid — and, if it helps, a Description.
Tap Save.
Home → collection name → Collection settings → Customization → Custom Removal Types → Create
Tapping a reason in the list reopens it so you can rename it. The description is set when you create it and cannot be edited afterwards.
Getting the seven standard reasons back
Swipe a reason left and tap Archive. Archiving is permanent — the reason moves to an Archived list and cannot be brought back — but bottles removed under it keep it. Once every custom reason is archived, the collection has none of its own again and the seven standard reasons return.
On each platform
Creating, renaming and archiving are on iPhone and iPad only. Android and the web app both show your custom reasons and remove bottles with them exactly as iPhone does — they just cannot manage the list. One thing to know on the web: its one-tap consume shortcuts disappear while custom reasons are in place, because none of them is the built-in Consumed reason.
