How to view critic ratings and reviews

Where critic scores and tasting notes live, why they are tied to a single vintage, and where the average score turns up.

Critic scores and their tasting notes live in the wine's Wine Guide, in the Critic Scores section — Critic reviews on the web app.

Requires a paid plan. Without one the section is blurred behind an upgrade card. The average score itself is not gated — see below.

Scores are per vintage, not per wine

Every critic score is attached to one wine and one year. A 2016 can carry six reviews while the 2017 beside it carries none, and the app will say so: "No critic reviews for this vintage just yet." Before assuming a wine has nothing, switch the vintage at the top of the Wine Guide and look again. Newer releases and less-followed wines are the ones most often still unreviewed.

Whose scores these are

They come from the major critics and publications — Wine Spectator, Robert Parker, Wine Enthusiast, Decanter and more. Where a wine has several, we also show an average of them, which is the number you see labelled Avg.

On iPhone and iPad

  1. Open the Collection tab and tap the wine.

  2. Tap Wine Guide.

  3. Scroll to Critic Scores.

  4. On iPhone, tap a critic's name in the row of chips to read that review; iPad shows the first few side by side. The app remembers the critic you picked and puts them first next time.

  5. Tap View all … critic reviews for the full list, or More to read a long tasting note in full.

On Android

  1. Open Collection and tap the wine.

  2. Tap Wine guide, then scroll to Critic Scores.

On the web app

  1. At app.invintory.com, click the bottle to open its panel.

  2. Click Wine guide.

  3. Scroll to Critic reviews, or jump there from the Critic score column's View reviews link.

The average score turns up elsewhere too

The average is a badge on your collection rows on iPhone, iPad and Android and a Critic score column on the web app, and you can filter and sort your collection by it, or print it on barcode labels. That average is visible on every plan — it is the individual scores and tasting notes behind it that need a paid plan.
