VinLocate is InVintory's 3D cellar and fridge visualization tool. It lets you build a virtual replica of your physical wine storage — section by section, shelf by shelf — so you can see exactly where every bottle is and find any wine in seconds.
VinLocate is available with InVintory Premium and higher subscriptions.
What VinLocate Does
With VinLocate, you can:
Build a 3D model of each cellar or fridge by defining sections (racks, shelves, bins, and wine cases)
Place bottles into specific slots — drag and drop wines into their exact physical positions
Find any bottle instantly — search for a wine and VinLocate highlights exactly where it's stored in the 3D view
Track open slots — see at a glance how many positions are available in each section
Get notifications — receive alerts when a wine in your cellar reaches its drink window
How It Works
VinLocate maps your physical storage into a digital grid. Here's the basic structure:
Level | What It Is | Example |
Storage | The top-level container — a cellar or fridge | "Basement Cellar" |
Section | A physical unit inside the storage — a rack, shelf, bin, or wine case | "Left Wall Rack", "Top Shelf" |
Slot | An individual position within a section where a bottle sits | Row 3, Column 5 |
You define the sections and their dimensions (rows, columns, and depth), and VinLocate generates the 3D visualization automatically.
Section Types
There are three types of sections you can create:
Rack — Individual bottle positions arranged in a grid (rows and columns). Best for standard wine racks and shelving units where each bottle has its own slot.
Bin — Larger compartments that hold multiple bottles together. Best for storage bins, cubbies, or diamond bins where bottles stack.
Wine Case — A single wooden case or box stored as one unit. Best for keeping cases intact and tracking them as a group.
Accessing VinLocate
There are several ways to view your 3D cellar:
Home screen — Tap View 3D on any storage card in the Cellars & Fridges section
Storage detail — Open a storage and tap the View in 3D button
Collection — Select bottles in your collection and use the VinLocate bulk action to place them
Getting Started with VinLocate
Setting up VinLocate for the first time takes just a few steps:
Create a storage — If you haven't already, create a cellar or fridge from the home screen. Check out our guide on How to Create Storages for a detailed walkthrough.
Add sections — Open the storage and create sections that match your physical layout. Set the dimensions (rows and columns) to match the actual slot count. See our guide on How to Create Sections in Your Storage for step-by-step instructions.
Place bottles — Once sections are set up, use the 3D view to drag bottles into their positions, or use the "Add to 3D position" prompt that appears after adding new bottles.
You don't need to set up everything at once. Start with one section, place a few bottles, and expand as you go.
Key Features
Bottle Search & Locate
Looking for a specific wine? Search for it in VinLocate and it will highlight the exact slot where the bottle is stored — no more digging through racks trying to find the right one.
Slot Customization
Customize individual slots to match your setup — change bottle direction (horizontal/vertical), mark slots as inactive, or adjust the layout. VinLocate adapts to how your storage actually looks.
Coordinates
Every slot has a coordinate (like "R3, C5, D1" for row 3, column 5, depth 1). These coordinates appear on bottle labels and in searches, making it easy to find bottles even without opening the 3D view.
Notifications
VinLocate can send you notifications when wines in your cellar reach their recommended drink window. Turn this on or off in your storage settings.
Tips
Match your physical layout — The more accurately your sections reflect reality, the easier it is to find bottles. Count your rack rows and columns carefully.
Use descriptive section names — "Left Wall - Bottom Rack" is much more helpful than "Section 1" when you're standing in your cellar.
Place bottles as you add them — When you add new bottles to your collection, the app will prompt you to place them in VinLocate. Do it right away while you remember where you put them.
Open slots at a glance — The home screen storage cards show "X slots open" so you always know how much room you have before buying more wine.
Duplicate sections — If you have identical racks, create one section and duplicate it to save time setting up the rest.
